Thank You Mom #PGMom #thankyoumom #Rio2016

Year after year, P&G proudly sponsors our Canadian Olympic athletes. You’ve probably seen these heartwarming videos in the past, they’ve been known to draw a tear or two from mothers all over the country.

Disclosure: I am a P&Gmom/mamanP&G. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events and opportunities. The opinions on this blog are my own.

This year’s video titled “Strong”, which launched on April 27, 2016.

The short films are some of the most viewed Olympic Games videos of all time and “Strong” builds on that tradition of storytelling, with a fresh new take on the pivotal role moms plays in their kids’ lives.

This year, for the first time, P&G brands are revealing “The Global Mom Report,” offering new insights about what it means to be a mom in today’s world. Among findings in the report:

  • After becoming a mom, women said they appreciated their own mothers more, recognizing her patience (54%), empathy (42%) and emotional strength (41%)
  • 86% of mothers want their children to feel their presence and the impact of their parenting even when they can’t be together

In my opinion, these findings are true.  It was only after I became a mom that I realized just how much my mother loved me, how much she gave of herself to me, and how much she sacrificed for me.  It was only after having my own child that I appreciated everything that my mother did for me.

When my daughter expressed interest in swimming, I made sure I enrolled her in swimming classes.  Personally, I don’t know how to swim and am frightened of water so allowing my daughter to go in the water was very frightening.  Every week for many weeks, over several years, I took my daughter to her swimming classes.  I watched every stroke and was in awe to see her progression.  She was amazing!  I was, and am still, so very proud of my daughter.

I hope that one day my daughter will experience motherhood.  Perhaps then she’ll realize just how much I love her.

Off the track and into the kitchen – Canadian Olympian Brianne Theisen-Eaton cooks up an athlete-powered lunch with her mom, Kim and P&G

Fresh from her first major competition of the year, Canadian Olympian Brianne Theisen-Eaton will meet with media on Wednesday, June 3 to share her recipe for success – literally.

The track and field star will be joined by her mom, Kim, as they host a lunch and cooking demonstration to kick off their participation in P&G’s Thank You Mom program. This program celebrates the role moms play in raising Olympians and great kids. Brianne will showcase how to cook healthy meals and snacks fit for an athlete, with recipes passed down from her mom.  Brianne and Kim are a natural fit for the P&G Thank You Mom campaign as they rely on many P&G products everyday including personal favourites such as Tide, Bounty, Gillette and Pantene.  As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to support athletes and salute their moms, all Athletics Canada athletes competing at the upcoming Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto will be receiving P&G product packages.  Brianne continues to make her mark as one of Canada’s top track and field athletes. She competed in the London 2012 games and holds the Canadian record for heptathlon. She is a silver medallist from the 2013 World Championships and a pentathlon silver medallist from the 2014 World Indoor Championships. She is the first and only Canadian woman to podium in the multi-events at the World Championships. But in addition to sport, Brianne is also an avid home cook, a tradition passed down from her mom.

Brianne and Kim are joining the Thank You Mom program just before she competes at the Pan Am Games in Toronto this summer as she continues to make her push for Rio.

I really enjoyed Brianne’s granola bars; they’re so simple to make and pack the protein punch she needs.  She was gracious to share her recipe …

Nut & Seed Granola Bars
Ingredients:
3 cups gluten-free oats
1/4 cup flax seed meal
1/4 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
3/4 tbsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 cup almond butter
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. honey
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl until well combined. In separate bowl, mix almond butter, honey, and vanilla together until smooth. Sometimes I heat slightly in the microwave to make it a little more runny and easier to mix. Combine with dry ingredients (using your hands to mix is easiest). Dump mixture onto parchment lined cookie sheet and press down firmly until about 1/2 inch thick. Smooth the top.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes.  Preheat oven to 200 degrees and bake bars for 30 minutes. Let cool, cut into squares, and wrap in plastic wrap.

Makes about 30 bars.

It was an absolute delight meeting both Brianne, and her mom Kim.  P&G will be donating the following products to all Athletics Canada athletes at Pan Am and Para Pan Am Games:

About Brianne:

Brianne continues to make her mark as one of Canada’s top track and field athletes. She competed in the London 2012 games and holds the Canadian record for heptathlon. She is a silver medallist from the 2013 World Championships and a pentathlon silver medallist from the 2014 World Indoor Championships. She is the first and only Canadian woman to podium in the multi-events at the World Championships. But in addition to sport, Brianne is also an avid home cook, a tradition passed down from her mom.   Brianne is counting down the days until she competes in the Pan Am Games.  I hope you’ll cheer her on!

My mom; currently fighting Alzheimer’s, has shared many tips with me over the years. Having a different background than most, she always talked to me about keeping financially safe.  Her main point was to always keep some money aside, even if  that means keeping it a secret from your spouse!  The whole idea was to ensure the woman’s safety … if her husband ever became abusive then she would have a way to escape!  Fortunately I’ve never had to escape from harm; however, I always took her words of wisdom to heart and kept a little safety money aside just in case.

I am definitely in a safe relationship so ‘escaping’ isn’t even a concern!  Thank goodness.  I can focus on living a happy, loving life – I do so to the best of my ability.  My focus is on my family: my spouse, daughter, and my two cats.  I’m a proud PGMom; however, I’ve been a loyal to the P&G Brand for years and years!

There are certain products that I really love:

Tide – Over the years, I’ve always used Tide.  Now, Tide Pods are my favourite! Convenient, easy, and so much easier to carry home!

COVERGIRL – I love Clump Crusher Mascara!  Seriously, no clumping.

Olay – The entire line is fantastic!  I start my make-up routine with Olay CC Cream. The perfect all-in-one product.

AlwaysAlways Infinity is super absorbent and flexible … definitely reliable.

CrestCrest Sensi Relief provides the sensitivity relief that I need.  I’ve always been a Crest-girl; I love how Crest is innovative … everyone can find their solution with Crest!

My list can go on (and does); however, the above products are my personal favourites.  Which P&G products are your favourite?
