On February 14th, I attended Metamucil’s Newest Product launch:  Meta Appetite Control (in orange).  For now, the only flavour is orange; however, more flavours should be coming in the future.  I know I’m a little behind on my posts; however, since I have been health challenged as of late I think it’s so a propos to share my experience with you now.

The latest addition to the Metamucil wellness line of products is actually very helpful.  Various insights were shared into healthy snacking and tips to help manage our appetite.  All of these helpful tips are great ways for us to incorporate small changes into our day-to-day lives to make them healthier.– Made with 100% natural source psyllium fibre

It’s getting to be that time of year – the holidays are upon us! After a busy fall getting settled back into a routine, it’s easy to pick up bad habits when it comes to your healthy diet. Psyllium fibre, the naturally sourced dietary fibre found in Metamucil powder, has a long history of use in traditional and herbal medicines. In fact, it can provide multi-health benefits, such as helping to lower cholesterol to promote heart health*.  Since first being introduced to Metamucil, several years back, I have discovered that it was actually an easy yet positive way to make a change in my life.

Slowly, I’ve been modifying my diet by focusing on these tips:

  • the right portions of whole, unprocessed foods
  • Whole grains
  • low fat dairy
  • lean cuts of meat and opting for vegetarian more often
  • reducing use of highly processed foods

There are several reasons for using Metamucil:

When taken with 240 mL of liquid prior to a meal, Metamucil psyllium fibre thickens and forms a gel which aids in the sensation of fullness and prolongs the intestinal phase of nutrient digestion and absorption, helping to temporarily increase feelings of fullness and reduce food intake.
Metamucil contains a bulk-forming fibre without any chemical stimulants. The active ingredient, psyllium husk, is a soluble viscous fibre that absorbs and holds moisture. This causes the psyllium to swell, supplying the necessary bulk to help form an easily eliminated stool. Metamucil will not cause immediate evacuation but generally produces an effect in 12 to 72 hours.

The psyllium in Metamucil forms a viscous gel, which traps some sugars as the gel moves down the intestine. Trapped sugars are slowly released and absorbed into the body—helping the body maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Remember whatever healthy steps you take will be steps in the right direction.  That’s always worth it!

Fibre: 16 grams

1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
1 heaping tablespoon dried goji berries
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1/4 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1 cup (250 mL) unsweetened soy milk or skim milk
1 level teaspoon Metamucil® Berry Burst with 75% Less Sugar or Original Smooth
Ice cubes or crushed ice


Blend blueberries, raspberries, gogi berries, flaxseed, yogurt, milk and Metamucil® with ice in blender until smooth.

Citrus Spritzer

Makes: 1 cup (250 mL)
Prep time: 5 minutes
Ready in: 1 minute
Difficulty: EasyCitrus Spritzer
Fibre: 6 grams 

3/4 cup (180 mL) sparkling water

1/4 cup (60 mL) unsweetened orange or grapefruit juice
2 level tsps (10 mL) Metamucil Sugar Free Original Smooth or Metamucil Sugar Free Orange Flavour Smooth
1 lime or lemon wedge
1 orange, wedge
2 fresh mint leaves, chopped (optional)
Natural sweetener of your choice (optional)


  1. Stir together water, juice and Metamucil.
  2. Squeeze in lemon and orange wedges and add to glass.
  3. Stir in mint and natural sweetener, if using.
*Lowers mildly to moderately elevated cholesterol levels when taken with a low fat diet.
