Making Children’s Drinking Water Safe with P&G

Disclosure: I am a P&Gmom/mamanP&G. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events and opportunities. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Despite the pervasive effects of the global clean drinking water crisis, 56 per cent of Canadians do not fully understand the daily challenges that many in the developing world face. Over the past year, the P&G and Walmart Clean Water Initiative has sought to change this by educating Canadians about the dangers of contaminated drinking water and encouraging them to give back to the one billion people around the world who must contend with it every day.

The P&G and Walmart initiative set the goal of donating 25 million days of clean drinking water to those who need it most by March 31, 2015.P&G donated the equivalent of one day of clean drinking water for every participating P&G product purchased at Walmart or Walmart.ca. The not-for-profit P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) provides clean water using P&G Purifier of Water packets.  One of these small packets quickly turns 10 litres of dirty, potentially deadly water into clean, drinkable water.

P&G is pleased to announce that, through the generous support of Canadians, we have surpassed the program goal, raising over 25 million days of clean drinking water for children and families in need around the world.

As a P&Gmom blogger, I (and my fellow P&Gmom bloggers) have played an integral role in this success.  We have helped spread the word to families nation-wide by engaging in two very successful Twitter Chats. We have fostered a culture of giving by participating in the Clean Water Family Challenge. We have encouraged Canadians to reflect on the importance of clean water during the Clean Drinking Water Photo Challenge; and we have showed our readers, across the country, that a little giving can go a long way.  I am so honoured to have played a role in this important effort.

P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water ambassador Jason Priestley wants to express his gratitude to Canadians – including the P&Gmom blogger community – for the time, energy and resources we have contributed to make the P&G and Walmart Clean Water initiative a resounding success.  I would like to join him in thanking each and every one of you for your generous support. Children’s Clean Safe Drinking Water Luncheon with Jason Priestley #cleanwater

On February 25, 2015 I was honoured to attend the Children’s Clean Safe Drinking Water  educational luncheon – it’s not every day you get to lunch with Jason Priestly!  Of course, it’s easy to get ‘starstruck’ but once we got down to business it was clear just how passionate Jason is about this safe drinking water program.

I have to admit that the luncheon itself was a wonderful experience.  The PGMoms; in attendance, got to chat with Jason before lunch … we enjoyed some chuckles while exchanging our kid stories.  Our focus then turned to learning how 2 cents can turn dirty water into clean water.  Actually, I was the only PGMom there that tried the ‘clean’ water.  It did have a chlorine taste to it but it was totally drinkable.  To be fair, I don’t believe that the packet was used in 10L of water.  That would explain why I tasted the chlorine!

Canadian actor, director and clean water advocate Jason Priestley shows his dedication to the clean drinking water crisis by supporting the P&G and Walmart Clean Water Campaign. The P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program helps provide clean drinking water to people in need through a water purifying technology developed by P&G. One small P&G purification packet quickly turns 10 litres of dirty, potentially deadly, water into clean, drinkable water.

P&G is donating a day of clean drinking water for participating P&G products purchased at Walmart and Walmart.ca during the campaign. We are nearly at our goal of donating 25 million days of clean drinking water, and the P&Gmom blogger community had been an integral part of this success.

Help provide clean drinking water to those who need it with P&G & Walmart*

It is estimated that for more than one billion people safe drinking water is a problem — something we in the Canada usually take for granted.

Contaminated water not only tastes bad but it causes diseases that are killing more children than HIV Aids and Malaria combined — nearly 1,600 children every day.

The goal from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 is to provide 25 million days of clean drinking water for people who desperately need it.

The amazing water purification technology you can see in the video above was invented by P&G scientists.
Since this pioneering breakthrough, P&G water purification packets have purified more than 7 billion liters of water, preventing an estimated 290+ million days of illness and helping to save more than 39,000 lives.

Here’s how you can help

* For every participating P&G product you purchase at Walmart in-store or online from February 19 – March 19, 2015, P&G will donate 1 day of clean drinking water (US$0.02) to the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Fund.1

Children’s Safe Drinking Water Fund is a charitable fund managed by the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program

The lack of clean drinking water in developing countries is a global crisis. Since its inception, the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water program has worked with more than 140 non-governmental organizations, charities and governments to raise awareness and deliver clean water.
