Adopting a Cat? Read this First! #ChurchAndDwight #ad

There are many things that get better with age, and a feline friend is one of them! If you’re thinking about adopting a kitten or know someone who is, ask that they consider a senior cat instead. Kittens are cute, but adult cats have a great deal going for them. Read and share this list of why adopting a senior cat might be right for you!

Senior cats are some of the hardest to find homes for — so when you adopt a senior cat you’re literally saving a life! This is a great life lesson to instill in your little ones.

– A senior cat’s personality has already developed, so you’ll know right away from your first encounter if he or she is a good fit for your family.

– A senior cat won’t grow any larger, so you’ll know exactly what you’re signing up for. Plus, you won’t have to upgrade to a larger cat house or litter box as they continue to grow.

– A senior cat may be house-trained with basic etiquette and not attack feet, bite hands or use the couch or carpet as a scratching post.IMG_0682Senior cats are often already litter trained and are less likely to “forget” where the box is. To help keep cats happy about their litter box, no matter what their age, use a quality cat litter like Arm & Hammer Slide. We know firsthand how amazing it is; however, these are only a few good reasons to try it for yourself:

1) It traps odours for 7 days, and is dust-free with a soft texture that’s easy on paws.

2) The patented EZ Clean technology means the used litter slides right out!

3)  No more scrubbing or scraping the bottom of the box!

Senior cats are often content to just relax in your company, unlike younger cats, who may get into mischief because they’re bored.

Did you Know?  With Friday, the 13th upon us, it’s important to remember that senior cats aren’t the only ones that tend to be forgotten – black cats are too. The superstitions that surround black cats have a real impact on them finding a forever home. Remember, the idea that black cats bring bad luck is nothing but a myth so don’t let that stand in your way of welcoming a deserving cat into your family.

If you regularly follow me, you know that we have four cats:  Jake, Josie, Jasper Jr, and Jacob.  Not everyone knows; however, that they’re all rescues!  Jake, the sweetest of them all, is our senior cat that we rescued from the street.  Apparently, his previous owners (in 2009) sold their house and moved during the winter months … they also left him behind!  He was clawless, family-less, and homeless on the streets.  How anyone has the heart to do that I’ll never know!  Thank goodness we found out about his story from a friend.  That same day he was warm and cozy in our bed … until today.  Jake has been the sweetest cat from day one; we couldn’t be happier with him.

When adopting, if you have access to his or her past, there are a few questions to consider:

1) What veterinary care has been received?

2) If found at a shelter, why is he/she there?

3) Is there a history of abuse?

4) What food is currently being fed?

The answers aren’t meant to prevent you from adopting.  Rather, the answers will better equip you to have the best experience.  To adopt a senior or black cat or learn more about cat adoption, visit your local SPCA or go online.

Sleep Routine Tips and Tricks #ChurchAndDwight #ad

Parents everywhere are all too familiar with how difficult it is to get back to routine and regular sleeping patterns once back-to-school is in full effect.

Disclosure: I have been compensated to share this post. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Although getting back into the swing of things is especially difficult for the little ones, it certainly isn’t a walk in the park for adults!  In spite of these difficulties we have to push onward; but, why struggle doing it when you can have some assistance?   Why put off feeling well rested and refreshed?

A couple of delicious gummies, once a day, before bedtime and you get 5 mg of melatonin (2.5 mg per gummy) which is enough to increase your total sleep time.

Here are some tips to ensure a good night’s sleep:

  • start your back to work/school schedule a few weeks early so you and your children are prepared and well rested for the real first day back
  • avoid the morning commotion of lost clothing and cranky little ones by getting your kids to choose their outfits the night before
  • story time
  • no technology 1-hour before bed
  • have a set schedule each night such as: bath, pajamas, brush teeth, and bed
  • skip the afternoon coffee and replace it with a peppermint tea which is caffeine-free but gives you energy until your night’s sleep
  • set aside some time for yourself and take a warm bath to relax before you go to bed
  • get your daily dose of exercise to ensure a good night’s sleep

I’m sure you have some tips of your own; share them in the comment section below.  What works for you?  What doesn’t work for you?

The countdown to back-to-school everything is on.  Are you ready?  As a mom’s job truly never ends, I am helping my daughter prepare to go into her second year at College.  This moment is bittersweet for me.  My daughter will always be my baby girl and yet; as each day passes, she becomes more independent.  The day will come when she won’t want my help; until then I will continue to do what I can.

Moms Know Best: University Student Care Package Essentials for Your Kids

No matter how old your kids get, you’ll never stop being their mom. So naturally, when that bittersweet milestone finally becomes a reality (yes, I’m talking about college or university) you’ll sleep better at night knowing that you’ve equipped them with the tools and the learnings they need to succeed.

Who’s kidding whom? They likely don’t want our advice so keep it short and sweet.

They can’t get a date without clean clothing!

Stain removers, sorting and scooping are not for students. Let’s face it. They’re just looking for an easy solution to the challenge ahead – no clean socks or underwear and they’ve got a date in a few hours. Send them off to school with a container of the new Arm & Hammer™ Plus OxiClean™ 3-In-1 Power Paks. This all-in-one detergent tackles tough stains, doesn’t require any measuring or scooping and is student-budget friendly. If you’re lucky, it may also mean you’re not greeted with a load of dirty laundry every time your kid comes home to visit.Tip:  Don’t be surprised when you receive a call or text saying, “Mom, how do I sort my laundry?” Or “Where do I find the washing instructions?” To help make laundry easier (and prevent shrinking t-shirts and colour bleed disasters at the same time!), educate them on the proper laundry symbols. In fact, you can download a fun laundry symbols postcard from Arm & Hammer Laundry here that lists the most common symbols and what they mean.Don’t forget to talk about being safe!

One of the biggest challenges as a parent, is how to talk to your kids about safe sex. While it can be uncomfortable, it’s a necessary conversation and part of life! The harsh reality is that kids are having sex, yet not properly protecting themselves. [1]In fact, a study found that almost two-thirds (64 per cent) of post-secondary students across the country had a sexual encounter within the past year. Furthermore, 72 per cent of students engaged in intercourse during their last sexual encounter, yet only about half (51 per cent) reported using a condom.Tip: If you have a child heading off to school, buy condoms for them and pack them in their suitcase. Trojan™ condoms are the number one condom choice of Canadians for protection.

Sometimes, kids know best!

Just because you’re the one who’s prepping the kids for back-to-school, doesn’t mean they can’t teach you a cool thing or two – beauty hacks are no exception! One must-have item that’s as just as popular amongst moms as with students is Batiste Dry Shampoo. It is the world’s #1 dry shampoo* for a reason – it instantly refreshes your hair between washes, no water required. It works by absorbing excess oil from the roots leaving hair looking clean and fresh. So, whether you’re running late or just looking for an instant refresh, new Batiste Dry Shampoo Heavenly Volume is a saving grace as it has the additional benefit of transforming hair with gorgeous, touchable volume and bounce. This is one item you won’t forget anytime you’re in a pinch and who knows, you might even find yourself sneaking into her bag to borrow some when you’re out!Know of someone heading off to college/university this Fall?
