Enjoy Each Step #SKECHERS #SkechersPerformance #ad

I’m overweight [obese really] and definitely not fit; however, that doesn’t mean that I’m not trying!  I’m 50 years old ~ugh!~ and I’ve gone through some difficult experiences over the past several years but now I’m feeling better, stronger, and even hopeful … for change.

Disclosure: I have been compensated to share this post. The opinions on this blog are my own.

I have never professed to be ‘in shape’ or even ‘put together’ but I have made some changes to my life so that I can get onto the path to be healthier.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get back to what I once was but I think I owe it to myself to try.  Even though I’m 50, the truth is I don’t know if I will live to be 100!  The best thing to do is to focus.

Since January, and up until my recent trip to Vancouver, I had been routinely exercising on my treadmill and I was eating pretty healthfully.  Like everyone (I suppose), I got sidetracked with my vacation.  You know how it is?  Friends and family want you to come have a drink and/or meal to celebrate the fact that you’re together again, you go see this or go see that and BAM there’s an ice cream shop!  Damn it.  What are you going to do?  I say: “it’s ok to slack off or else you won’t be able to enjoy the moment”.  Now that I’m back it’s time to get back on track!  I’m not going to beat myself up about a pound … or two … or three … or whatever!  There’s no point in being hard on myself and it’s not going to be positive at all.  I’m going to embrace the break and accept it as having been a positive, re-energizing experience that I so desperately needed  …  and I’m going to embrace the hard work I’m going to have to do to get to a healthier weight.

There isn’t an agenda.  I’m not trying to get to size zero.  I’ve been a size zero and it wasn’t healthy, good, or glamorous.  I need to reduce my weight for my heart, my back, and my overall health.

It’s sad actually.  There are many that don’t have to worry about their weight, nor do they have to struggle.  Then there are many that struggle with their weight … whether it be to gain weight or to lose weight.  It’s a constant battle!  I’ve struggled with my weight all of my life, and it feels like I’ve been every size there is!!!  I know that’s not true but I have been every size from zero to eighteen!  I believe I’ve been every one of those sizes twice!  I remember seeing my mom struggle with her weight too.  Perhaps it’s genetics?   Perhaps it has to do with anxiety or depression?  Whatever it is doesn’t change the fact that I have to make changes!  Somehow I have to make progress.

One thing I don’t have to compromise is my comfort.  That’s important you know!  I rely on my SKECHERS to give me the cushioning protection I need.  The SKECHERS Ultra Flex – First Take shoe is a slip on sporty comfort walking and training sneaker with an air-cooled memory foam insole, and an Ultra Flex midsole (a highly flexible comfort midsole with superior impact cushioning protection and remarkable energy return).  I take my SKECHERS with me on every trip I go on.

As you can see for yourself, British Columbia had no idea that Jeannine was about to hit them hard with style, comfort, and class!  I wore my SKECHERS everywhere because I need comfort because of my lower back issues, and because I need style

On this trip out West I also took my SKECHERS Apparel – Nite Owl™ Activate Packable Windbreaker Jacket.  It’s very handy to fold up your jacket into front welt pocket … basically converting into a fanny pack!  It’s also handy that it’s water-resistant fabric to help keep you dry, and that the polka dot print is reflective (this keeps you safe if you decide to go for a walk/jog/run at night).  While this windbreaker jacket is especially perfect for travel, it’s also awesome for use right here in my beloved Toronto & GTA!

For those that follow me, you know about my love for SKECHERS.  For those that happened to come across this post, you should know that SKECHERS is one brand that I really stand behind.  It’s affordable, fresh, innovative, caters to a variety of needs, seasons and styles all the while providing support and comfort.

With SKECHERS, you can’t go wrong.

Balancing Your pH with RepHresh™ Pro-B #pHBalancingAct #ad + #Giveaway CAN 18/05

Taking control of your health isn’t always easy but it’s not as difficult as you might think. There are so many experiences in life that women go through (menstruation, intercourse, pregnancy, menopause – just to name a few) and I believe that the more you educate yourself, equip yourself and effectively make appropriate changes in your life the more likely you are to manage and/or maintain your health.

Disclosure: I have been compensated to share this post. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Having turned 50, I can honestly say that I have experienced my fair share of life’s experiences.  I’ve also experienced many health issues; this is why my health has become extremely important to me.  I am trying to learn more about my health but I also share my knowledge with my daughter, and even her girlfriends, because I want these young ladies to be able to make informed decisions about their health as well.  Yes, here on the blog as well, I want you to learn about your health.  Think of it as a gift.

RepHresh™ Pro-B™ Probiotic helps maintain feminine health and this is why, since I was introduced to it, I have been taking it.  What is it?  RepHresh™ Pro-B™ Probiotic is a gynecologist recommended daily oral probiotic that helps maintain the normal amount of vaginal lactobacilli and prevents odour, irritation and abnormal vaginal discharge.  The capsule is easy to swallow (think of it as a vitamin for your vagina!) and it’s convenient to take because it can be taken orally at any time throughout the day, as opposed to others that need to be taken vaginally.  It’s designed for females 12 years or older.  Best of all, it’s available over the counter.

This feminine supplement is clinically shown to balance yeast and bacteria.  RepHresh™ Pro-B™ was specially formulated by doctors at the Canadian Research and Development Centre for Probiotics associated with one of Canada’s foremost Universities.   The patented probiotic strains in RepHresh™ Pro-B™, L. rhamnosus GR-1™ and L. reuteri RC-14™, help to maintain the flora important to overall vaginal health, balancing yeast and bacteria to maintain feminine health.

Actually, the vaginal yeast counts of healthy women fluctuate significantly, and do so often without you even knowing.  RepHresh™ Pro-B™ contains strains specific to vaginal health.  It is clinically shown to balance yeast and bacteria unlike other probiotic supplements which target digestive health.  The fluctuations in the vaginal pH level can occur for many reasons: hormones, menstruation, intercourse, even going on a flight!  By maintaining the vaginal pH at a healthy, normal level, you can reduce the plethora of vaginal issues that can occur.

I had the opportunity to do my own little experiment at home.  I was provided with a set of pH strips and two fresh juices so that I could (1) see for myself, and (2) share with you what a healthy vaginal pH range is.

A) I took a strip from the test kit and dipped it into the first juice and let it sit for 30 seconds.  I then took it out and compared it against the colour chart on the pH test kit to determine the pH level.  A healthy vaginal pH level is between 3.5 and 4.5

B) I repeated step A with the second juice.  Do you see a difference?

One of the juices has a pH level that can be comparable with a healthy vaginal pH, while the other juice has one that is comparable to an unhealthy vaginal pH level.

~ a vaginal pH greater than 4.5 means there’s a perfect environment for bacteria growth

~ menstrual blood has a pH of 7.4

~ semen (intercourse) has a pH of 7.1 to 8

~ water (feminine washes/cleansers)  … water has a pH of 7 … fragrances/perfumes can irritate the vagina

~ both pregnancy and menopause cause hormones to fluctuate; usually to an elevated pH

I caution you to always discuss any vaginal symptoms and concerns with your doctor.  If you’re concerned about forgetting what you want to discuss with your doctor you may want to write it down, along with any questions, on a piece of paper.  You’ll discover that many gynecologists recommend RepHresh™ products!

Personally, I went through some difficult moments with my health that included my vaginal health.  I went through a lifetime of menstrual concerns (including bacterial infections). Recently, since being forced into menopause, my hormones have gone completely whacked!  This is the moment when women (like me) are experiencing an elevated pH.  I’m now feeling much better but I can honestly say that in retrospect, I probably could have had easier moments throughout my life.  Had I not felt embarrassed to discuss certain topics with my doctor I would have discovered solutions; instead I lived with discomfort, pain, and even embarrassment.  It’s wonderful to note that over the years women’s health has taken center stage and women are more comfortable and confident discussing what should be ‘normal topics’.  Shouldn’t our health be ‘normal’?  It should and it is!  Let’s all please teach our daughters, sisters, friends, and any other women in our lives, this valuable information.

Ladies, I encourage you to be open about your health with your doctors, with yourselves, and with your daughters.  There’s no need to feel shy or embarrassed about anything to do with your health.  By being open and honest we can take control of our health.

4 Important Tips to Keep You Healthy ‘down there’ #ChurchAndDwight #ad

It’s summer and; therefore, oh so easy to get a yeast infection!  Here’s the good news … you don’t have to suffer!  Try these 4 tips to keep you happy and healthy ‘down there’.

Disclosure: I have been compensated to share this post. The opinions on this blog are my own.

After a long winter, I realize that there’s nothing I’m craving more than the hot sun and patio weather. What I don’t miss are the pesky issues “down there” that also come with soaking up the sun. Yes, you read that right. For many women, the warmer temperature brings an increased risk of an “itch” that nobody likes to talk about – yeast infections.

Surprisingly, yeast infections affect more women than you think! Approximately five per cent of women experience reoccurring yeast infections (3 to 4 infections in the last year)[1] and this has a lot to do with heat. The infection occurs when moisture gets trapped and yeast can overgrow, causing itching, burning and discomfort. If you’ve had one, you know exactly what I’m talking about.IMG_1557The good news is that with a few simple tips, you can avoid that pesky itch.

  1.  Remember to dry off: Relaxing in a hot tub is the perfect way to enjoy a warm, summer evening. However, yeast grows best in a moist environment, making hot tubs a breeding ground for unwanted infections. This means it’s important to dry off well afterwards and change into dry clothes right away. Use this same approach when spending the day at the beach or pool.
  2.   Know your pH: Many vaginal health issues, including odour, itchiness and yeast infections stem from an unbalanced pH. RepHresh™ Gel is a gynecologist recommended product and clinically proven to be pH balanced which can help to eliminate feminine odour and relieve feminine discomfort.
  3.   Wear cotton undies: Unfortunately, your tight skinny jeans may not be the best option this summer. Warm, tight clothing allows for little oxygen movement making the perfect breeding ground for yeast. If you must rock the skinnies, wear cotton underwear.
  4.   Take healthy measures: RepHresh™ Pro-B reduces the number of urogenital pathogenic bacteria and yeast on vaginal surfaces. It’s clinically tested and works by balancing the yeast and bacteria that are naturally present in a woman’s body to help restore and maintain proper vaginal flora. Try adding one capsule to your daily routine to keep your body on track and ensure nothing slows you down this summer!

How are you going to beat the summer heat?  If you’ve tried either of these products, I’d love it if you left me a comment with your thoughts.  Don’t be shy … the more we open up and discuss these “issues” the more we educate ourselves.
