I was first introduced to Becel® when I was a young girl, while visiting my grandmother in Portugal. Becel was first launched in Canada years later! Becel has always cared about the importance of heart healthy living. For me, Becel® has always been my #1 margarine brand. Education is key when it comes to health. So which fats are good for you? Mono and polyunsaturated are important for a healthy diet. Becel® margarine contains no trans-fat and has 80% less saturated fat than butter.
Do you know what ingredient can be used to make margarine yellow? Carrot juice! Simple.
Recently, I was invited to attend the #BecelBlendBar event. What we learned confirmed exactly how I already felt about Becel® … let me share that with you!
Did you ever think about making your own margarine at home? You can! The Master Blender, Rose Reisman, did just that … right in front of us! By pressing sunflower and Canadian canola seeds, and then blending it with water, salt, cream, and carrot juice … we had simply delicious, soft, non-hydrogenated margarine. We each got to try some on gluten free bread. It was smooth, creamy, fresh and delicious! I could swear I could even taste a hint of lemon.
This treat was followed by some surprisingly easy creations by Chef Graham Elliot. He shared his tips and tricks with us as we breezed through each course.
Before we knew it, we had completed every item on the menu.
The Blend Bar by Becel® cleared up any concerns we many have had about margarine. Gone are thoughts of complicated chemicals. The Becel® margarine I love is now made with simpler ingredients, no artificial preservatives, flavours, or colours, and has a great taste my family loves. It is made from a blend of plant and seed oils. It provides a source of good Omega 3 polyunsaturated fats that our bodies need.
It can be used for cooking, baking, frying, sautéing and spreading. And it’s so versatile, you can replace butter 1:1 in any recipe for an alternative with 80% less saturated than butter.
Residents of Toronto and the GTA, if you want to experience the Art of Blending, you are invited to visit the Blend Bar by Becel® at Loblaws at Maple Leaf Garden (60 Carlton Street, Toronto) to watch the Master Blender at work, and to taste fresh margarine blended on the spot between March 2nd and 20th, 2016.

YEAH we have shredded carrots at work and they tend to stain the baskets they are put into, so I can see it being used as a coloring thats natural and safe
