You Need to @ChooseMuse to Train Your Brain #Giveaway CAN 26/04

Believe it or not, with just 3 minutes each day you can help your brain become more fit.  How?  Using Muse™, and its free “Calm” app, will whip you into shape … just about anywhere.

What is Muse™?

Muse™ is a brain sensing headband that is a fitness tool for the mind.  It can help you reduce stress and regain focus through focused-attention training exercises (in 3-20 min each day).  Muse™ can train your brain to fight distractions, improve concentration, and reduce stress!  These days, everyone could use help in that department.

How does Muse™ work?

Muse™ detects your brain signals during brain training exercises, much like a heart rate monitor detects your heart rate when you’re engaged in physical activity. Through seven EEG sensors on the headband, Muse™ detects your brainwaves and wirelessly transmits this activity to the Calm app on your connected mobile device. It then provides real-time audio-visual feedback to let you know when your mind is calm and when it’s drifting. If your mind is in a total state of Zen, you’ll hear calm, soothing winds. If it’s active with wandering thoughts, you’ll hear loud gusty winds. By translating your brain waves to these immediate cues, Muse™ gives you feedback that you can use to improve your focus, attention, and composure over time.

Muse™ is safe and already in use in over 50 hospitals and labs (Harvard, UC Berkeley, University of Toronto, and many more).

Whether you’re working, reading a book, driving, or trying to sleep – distractions get in the way. Your mind strays to things completely unrelated – a situation which Harvard University researchers found leads to unhappiness.

Muse™ guides you through focused-attention exercise. When your mind wanders, you receive real-time feedback which allows you to identify your distractions immediately and train your focus and concentration.

Muse™ provides feedback to let you know you’ve been distracted.

After exercising and strengthening the muscle of attention over time, you become more and more immune to distraction and better able to focus and be productive. And as research shows, you will be happier too.

Over time, your Muse™ training teaches you to catch your distractions earlier and keep focused.

How Do You Begin?

The first time you use Muse™, you’ll be led through a simple tutorial that teaches you how to adjust the headband for a good fit, ensure it’s reading your brain signals correctly, and it will guide you through the exercises.  It’s simple really!  You can always check the FAQ for support.  You’ll see many benefits over time.  One of the key benefits is greater focus; however, you can see what some people are saying about Muse™ here.

The Calm app will transport you to a relaxing beach scene and then guide you through a focused attention exercise. As you train your brain to better maintain a state of stillness and relaxation for longer periods of time, you’ll be rewarded with the sound of birds gently singing nearby.

What I Think:

I think Muse™ is a great way to take time for yourself; it’s time that I wouldn’t normally take.  My family has learned that when “Mommy has that thing on her head … that means she’s relaxing so leave her alone”!  For me it was difficult; at first, to learn to relax and calm my thoughts, and breathing right down.  Now, after just a few minutes each night, I am starting to actually feel a difference!

frames_62 You can see how April 6th was the day that I was most calm; that was my birthday and I did absolutely nothing around the house … could that be why? Hmmmmm?  I like how you can review your data and browse through your completed sessions.  It’s a good way to monitor how you’re doing.  I haven’t been fortunate enough with the birds (yet).  If you can calm yourself right down then you might even hear the bird sounds!  I’ve only heard them 3 times in the past 14 sessions or so.

I’m close to passing 5000 points.  You get awarded points at the end of each session; these points reflect how you’re doing each day.  When you finally reach 5000 points, you can finally go to the next level.  I’m not sure what the next level offers; however, I’ll assume guided meditation in different settings?  Who knows?  I’ll only be able to know once I surpass the 5000 goal.

Muse™ is available at Best Buy.
