Since posting my Activia Challenge Giveaway [ Activia Challenge Kits #Giveaway CAN 25/03 http://wp.me/p12Gyx-4cv via @MyBitsandBleeps ]. I was given the opportunity to interview Tracy Moore (Cityline host) and I couldn’t pass it up.
A big thank you goes out to Tracy for scheduling time for me in her busy day!
Q1) Do you often have time to dedicate just to yourself (me time) and what’s your idea of a relaxing time?
A1) The genius way for ‘me time’ is to disguise it as working out. Me time = Fitness time. I work out 2 mornings and 2 afternoons, and Saturday morning the kids stay in their rooms until the treadmill beep. A perfect day for me would include: going to the restaurant with the family or just with my husband, having a good conversation with my husband without interruptions, or reading for a couple of hours.
Q2) It’s not easy to always eat right as an average mom. How does a busy one; like you, manage and maintain a nutritious diet while always on the go?
A2) I’m good about forgiving myself. For example, I had a busy day yesterday and by 6 pm I was famished. My dinner was a protein shake and half a loaf of whole wheat bread with peanut butter and went to bed. It’s ok. I’m busy, I’m tired, I workout. Every day is a chance to get it right. I just turned 40 in January. It’s ok, stop beating yourself up. 90% of the time it’s major organization. My meals of the next day are done the day before, along with the kids lunches. Our family doesn’t have the traditional roles. My husband cooks the meals. He enjoys cooking. He includes lean meats (protein), vegetables, and complex carbohydrates.
Q3) When did you become interested in being fit?
A3) I was always into training my body in high school. In University, I fell off and gained weight. I was having fun, I was carefree, it was the only time I was unfit. While taking my Masters, I realized it was a superficial field so to shape up my body. In 2000 I graduated with my Masters. Regardless of my weight, fitness has always been a concern.
Q4) How do you balance family and career?
A4) My husband has a lot to do with it. I am realistic about limitations. I can’t be the “control freak”. I learned to let go. Life can be messy. Expectations have to be realistic; it’s ok if things aren’t perfect. Balance is about mental state. Perfect balance is about getting through it as best as you can.
Q5) How do you fit your health routine into a busy lifestyle (going to the gym etc.)?
A5) It’s about scheduling. My husband and the kids understand it’s for my mental state. I have a list for everything and it’s all in my calendar.
Q6) Why trust Activia? How will it help you?
A6) I started the challenge on Wednesday. With my diet, I’m usually hungry at 3 pm so I’m using the challenge to feel filled up. I haven’t done yoghurt in a long time. I snack at 10 am and at 3 pm. It’s a portable protein. I’m hoping it’ll fill me up. So far it’s good.
Q7) What are your current fitness goals?
A7) I’ve had a bad back for 4-5 years now. My trainer and I are working on correcting it. So (1) for my lower back pain, and (2) to increase my strength. I like feeling strong, and for carrying the kids.
Q8) Do you have any advice for busy moms wanting to start-up a health routine?
A8) Don’t be scared of doing something specific. Start by scheduling time in day to move and make it work within your life. Make it enjoyable, and simple. You shouldn’t have to do something you hate. If you like dancing, try Zumba. Jog when you go pick up the kids from school, walk back. I hate going outside in the winter, but my husband does. He goes out with the kids. I love the summer so we’ll stay outside. Kids learn by example so be an example for your kids. Do it with your kids.
