Alzheimer’s Makes Families Exhausted

My Mom has Alzheimer’s; that’s NOT news. I’ve been sharing our ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ and all of the struggles of emotions. There’s no doubt, Alzheimer’s really puts a drain on families.

Aside from the emotional pull that is felt each and every time a visit with mom is had, there’s the daunting task of ’emptying’ the family home. In our case we have two homes (one here and one back home). It doesn’t sound so bad, you must be thinking. Trust me; when I say to you, my mom has managed to ‘collect’ MANY items. I’m certain these items were (are) of value to her; however, it is apparent to us that it might not be the case for us. Thank goodness she’s never returning to her home again … she’d have a heart attack for sure.

My mom enjoyed sewing. She did it as an enjoyable pastime and out of need. We just threw out half of her material (enough to open up a shop), and, we are facing a couple shops-worth more!

Now, onto the dishes ….

  1. Threw out a bunch of sewing stuff…. I would have put my hand up for that….. If you haven’t read Still Alice, you might enjoy it (or not). I guess given you’re experiencing the advanced stages of the disease with your mom…. Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2015 13:36:05 +0000 To: quovadisconsulting@sympatico.ca
