Monday Mumblings – January 12, 2015

Over the last two weeks (14 days), I must have received calls 10 days out of the fourteen from the long-term care facility my mom is staying at. It seems that my mom constantly believes that “they will be kicking us out in four days!”. I can explain; until I’m blue in the face, that her belief is not a fact and her Alzheimer’s will continue to make her mind believe whatever it does.

Is this what the life of a POA (Power of Attorney) becomes?

Gone are the days of interacting with my mom. I now deal with doctors, nurses, support workers, etc. and we normally discuss her actions and reactions. In fact, we discuss “her” like she’s not even in the room.

This is what Alzheimer’s does to someone. As a nurse mentioned, “this is just the beginning of hell!”

  1. I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but sadly, I can’t. Even worse, it gets harder and harder as she progresses with the disease. The anger, frustration, etc… but if you were not the person making those hard choices on her behalf, who would do it?
Love ya lots girlfriend, and will keep you and your mom in my prayers. (((HUGS)))
