Monday Mumblings – November 10, 2014

Since getting my mom into the long-term care facility (due to Alzheimer’s) I’ve been super busy getting my mom’s needs taken care of. When a space becomes available you have 48 hours to move in the patient or risk losing the spot. I certainly didn’t want to lose my mom’s spot so I allowed the hospital to transfer my mom while I spent a couple of days going back and forth!

Why? Well, you see, I had to find clothing, shoes, outerwear, personal belongings, and even photos in frames, I also took a piece of furniture and purchased a TV for her. It may have been for naught … she can’t remember how to use the remote. Actually it’s worse than that! She can’t figure out how to open a door.

My mom is in the late stage of Alzheimer’s so it’s like she’s a toddler all over again.

  1. Hugs to you as you and your family adjust to this new phase in your lives. I saw my mother support my grandmother as she went through this process, and I know it’s not easy. Try to remember to take time to care for yourself when you can.

  2. You and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers. I’m so happy that she is in a proper home now. A place where she will get round the clock care. A place where you know she is safe and comfortable. Hugs.
