If you noticed my evening-long picture shares via Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook you know that I experienced a magical evening on August 13th.
The evening was spent celebrating and exploring regional specialties … fresh seasonal ingredients grown, raised, and aged ‘near you’. A special group of people met at Loblaws Forest Hill Market, at 396 St. Clair Ave. W., Toronto, Ontario and spent two wonderful hours meeting knowledgeable growers, farmers, and producers. I couldn’t have imagined a better evening!
Vineland Growers Co-operative – a wholesaler and marketer of peaches, cherries, nectarines, apricots, pears and fresh grapes which are grown and packed on family farms. Vineland Growers farmers grow more than one million trees on an estimated 5000 acres in the Niagara Region. The co-operative celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013 and is dedicated to the preservation of the family farm. Visit http://www.vinelandgrowers.com
Windmill Farms – the original Windmill Farm was built in East Toronto in the early 1960s and produced 50000 lbs. of mushrooms per year. Windmill Farms have since expanded and now produce over 25 million pounds of mushrooms every year. The close proximity of Windmill’s mushroom farms to the GTA and Loblaw’s distribution centers means that fresh mushrooms are packed and shipped to Loblaw within hours of harvest every day. I don’t know which one I liked more …
We had a super delicious dessert too!
I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to experience this wonderful #NearYou evening. Thank you Loblaws.
