To be truthful, I don’t think I could call myself a basketball fan. But, I am a sports fan, so when I had a chance to attend a game on Tuesday on behalf of my friend @MyBitsandBleeps I thought why not? I’ve never been to a bball game but I’ve heard that they’re a real fun time. And oh did I mention…this was a playoff game! Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets, Game 2, NBA playoffs.
And fun it was! The Air Canada Centre was rocking, and I have never been at a sporting event that sounded that much like a rock concert. The music and entertainment are nonstop. Sprinkled in between plays, commercial breaks and time outs, there were dancers, numerous tiny Dino mascots doing their antics, and surprises galore!
One of those came really early in the game when Swiffer upgraded a 300-level fan to floor seats. That was pretty cool! The winner was a really deserving fan who, armed with his Raptors scarf was just pouring his heart out cheering.
“And how was the game? ” you ask. Well hmmm.. Awesome! Basketball is a really physical game. In this match, no one backed down. Players on both teams hit the floor hard and often and there is a lot of pushing and jostling.
The lead went back and forth all night long. The Raptors started slow, getting down 8-1 early in the game. But it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. And the home team finished strong, beating the Brooklyn Nets 100-95 to even the series 1-1
The Raptor faithful also known as #WetheNorth and their bandwagon riding counterparts (who? me?) were raucous and supportive. We didn’t really spend a lot of time sitting down because we were too busy cheering our heroes and jeering the enemy. We had a right to be excited as the hometown team put on a first class show!
Well done Raptors!! Best of Luck in the playoffs. I’ll be watching on Friday!
